Starlight Cantonese Opera

The Starlight Cantonese Opera will perform their play Little Shepherd, followed by a demonstration of their signature movements and an invitation to learn with them. Little Shepherd follows the story of a village girl and a shepherd who meet on a country road and walk together toward the village.

After the performance, members of the opera will explain some of the show’s signature movements and highlight some features of a Chinese opera performance, such as horse riding with props, plus movement matched with percussion. Finally, there will be a “try and feel” section, where they will invite audience members to come up and learn some basic movement and skills

Starlight Cantonese Opera
Established in 2000, Starlight Cantonese Opera was put together by former Hong Kong residents with the objective of preserving and introducing the art form to the general public, and to younger generations of Canadian-born Chinese to maintain a connection to their cultural heritage. Since the group’s establishment, they have performed at a range of venues and events across the city and have expanded their offerings to include seminars and workshops.
