NokScoot to Launch Scheduled Services in May 2015

NokScoot, Thailand’s newest medium to long-haul budget airline, is planning to launch scheduled flights in May 2015.

The joint venture between Nok Air, Thailand’s premium budget carrier, and Singapore Airlines’ long-haul low-cost subsidiary Scoot, was initially planning to launch scheduled services in late 2014. However, the launch date was pushed back to Q1 2015 and then to Q2 2015, due to regulatory delays.

12 Filipinos in Forbes’ 2015 billionaires’ list

MANILA, Philippines – Nine of them were in the 2014 list, a retail power couple returns, plus a former senator join the ranks of Filipinos in the Forbes billionaires’ list for 2015.

From 97th in 2014’s ranking, mall magnate Henry Sy, 90, climbed to 73rd spot in the list of the world’s 1826 billionaires.

Sy still remains the richest man in the Philippines. His net worth of $14.2 billion is due to the continuous growth of his SM Investments Corporation, the largest retailer in the Philippines with over 200 individual outlets around the country.

AirAsia X to speed up refunds

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 March 2015: AirAsiaX is removing snags in its refund system that involves migrating the process to a global shared services office in Penang.

Issues with refunds came to light after the QZ8501 incident as well as unforeseen delays on the Denpasar – Melbourne route approval, which has caused a backlog in the refund process, the airline’s CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, explained in a press statement late last week.

AirAsia eyes adding cheap Hawaii flights

AirAsia X Bhd. plans routes to “exotic” destinations including Hawaii while dropping unprofitable ones to meet its forecast of returning to profit this year.

Flights to Adelaide and Nagoya will be scrubbed and Sydney trips will be less frequent as the airline slows its expansion to attain profit in 2015, Group Chief Executive Officer Kamarudin Meranun said in an interview Wednesday. The long-haul budget airline racked up net losses of more than $180 million since the last quarter of 2013 after “massive” capacity growth, he said.

AirAsia, ANA bid to bail out Skymark

ANA Holdings Inc and Malaysia’s AirAsia Bhd have notified bankrupt Skymark Airlines Inc of their plans to take part in the struggling airline’s restructuring as the company ended accepting applications for sponsorship on Monday.

ANA Holdings is expected to provide comprehensive support including a capital tie-up, joint purchase of jet fuel and code-sharing, sources close to the matter said.

Japan Airlines Co, the other major Japanese carrier, has said it will not apply to be a sponsor for Skymark.
