Asiana plane skids after landing in Japan runway; 27 hurt

TOKYO: An Asiana Airways plane smashed into a communications antenna as it came in to land at a Japanese airport, footage showed on Wednesday, injuring 27 people in an accident with echoes of the airline’s fatal 2013 crash in San Francisco.

Aerial footage from Hiroshima airport in western Japan showed the localiser — a large gate-like structure, six metres (18 feet) high that sits around 300 metres (yards) from the start of the runway — splintered, with debris spread towards the landing strip.

Unhappy AirAsia promoters put pressure on management to deliver

As the low-fare carrier AirAsia India moves from one missed milestone to another, the management headed by CEO Mittu Chandilya faces immense pressure to deliver, sources in the know told dna.

“There is a lot of introspection being done on why the airline has not been able to reach its milestones in time,” said a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Tata Sons, which is one of three partners of the joint venture airline, is apparently not happy with the airline’s performance till now, especially with network planning, said sources, adding that the promoters are reviewing their strategy.

ANALYSIS: AirAsia X’s New Flight to Hawaii Has Nothing to Do With Malaysia

By Vinay Bhaskara

Asian ultra low cost carrier (ULCC)AirAsia X will enter the US market in November 2015, launching nonstop service between Osaka, Japan and Honolulu with four weekly flights. The route will be served by an Airbus A330-300 aircraft, seating 377 passengers (including 12 premium economy seats).

The new route will technically be a continuation of AirAsia X’s existing nonstop service between its home base of Kuala Lampur, Malaysia and Osaka’s Kansai International Airport. AirAsia X also serves Osaka from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport via subsidiary Thai AirAsia X.
