For those who choose to spoil themselves, Hotels.com users have named these five- and four-star properties as their favourite luxury hotels.
Celebrated for its cosmopolitan location, modern rooms and service, the £228-a-night W Taipei in Taiwan, ranked first in the table, which was based on thousands of guest reviews.
In second place was Australia’s Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, which offers stunning views of the city’s harbour, while Hotel Sofitel New York, a block from Times Square, was third.
Mondrian London at Sea Containers, which overlooks the Thames, was listed in eighth spot.
