MANILA – Smart Communications Inc has entered into a deal with the operator of Cebu Pacific that would enable tourists to stay online while in the Philippines.
Under the partnership, passengers aboard Cebu Pacific’s inbound international passengers can purchase the Cebu Pacific Fun Data SIM, which is powered by Smart Bro. The SIM can be purchased inflight from the airline cabin crew starting December 1.
With the Cebu Pacific Fun Data SIM, tourists can enjoy 1.5 gigabytes (GB) worth of data for uploading photos on Facebook and Instagram, or sending a quick tweet or chat with friends and relatives abroad.
Besides the 15-day mobile data allocation, the SIM also includes 100 text messages and 10 minutes of voice calls to all Philippine mobile networks, as well as discounted rates for international calls.
“Partnering with Cebu Pacific Air opens a wider market for Smart as they continually expand their route network to more countries worldwide,” Michele Curran, Smart first vice president for Data and International Services said in a statement.
“With international tourist arrivals expected to grow further in the coming years, we see a bright spot in targeting foreign travelers who want to experience what the Philippines has to offer,” Curran said.
Cebu Pacific flies from 28 international destinations to the Philippines, and serves growing foreign tourist markets from South Korea, Japan, China and Australia, among others.
“Aside from offering a relevant product to suit our passengers’ needs, we believe this will also contribute to the country’s tourism agenda,” Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific vice president for Marketing and Distribution, said.
“The Cebu Pacific Fun Data SIM powered by Smart Bro can enable guests to share their fun experiences online, real-time, wherever they may be in the Philippines,” she added.
Cebu Pacific is controlled by the Gokongwei Group, which has a stake in Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co (PLDT), Smart’s parent firm.
InterAksyon.com is the online news portal of TV5, which is also part of the PLDT Group.
