Hand puppetry has been an art that has been passed down for generations. By re-enacting stories which are blends of folk tales, history, and tales of chivalry and romance, puppeteering has enjoyed the most long-lasting popularity in Taiwanese arts. Pili Puppetry, originated in Taiwan, has revolutionized the world of hand puppetry into a phenomenon that was unthinkable for older generations of puppeteers. The traditional art, originally shown before live audiences, is now made into movies. TAIWANfest is excited to invite Pili Puppetry this year to make its North American debut! It will be bringing along life-size puppets, movies, behind the scenes stories, and a talk on the successful journey of Pili!

當傳統轉變為時尚，當民俗被視為一種潮流，復古和科技變得不再衝突，虛幻與真實同樣共存於表演舞台上。這是世界的趨勢，亦是霹靂布袋戲所現今已達成並持續進步的成就。
現今美式漫畫英雄當紅，系列電影場場爆滿，日系動漫人物層出不窮，周邊商品銷售一空，各種角色扮演栩栩如生，宛如從漫畫中走出來，其邊際效應遠遠超出我們的想像。霹靂布袋戲結合美、日特色，創造武俠英雄人物，打造東方奇幻世界，以服裝、美術等現代元素設計人物，帶動各地戲迷cosplay的熱潮。
1998年霹靂布袋戲曾獲國家劇院邀約演出，首次不ＮＧ、不剪接現場實況演出，2011、2012年更舉辦《霹靂交響音樂會》，結合「音樂」、「偶藝」、「特效」及「多媒體科技」，展現霹靂布袋戲傳統技法與新式科技的跨界結合，證明其文化藝術的多元延伸性與創造力。今年台灣文化節亦將呈現霹靂布袋戲結合美術、傳統、影音等多重元素的表演，讓您現場感受霹靂布袋戲帶來的時尚潮流！
