Film Screening: Soul of a Banquet

The Canadian premiere of acclaimed director Wayne Wang’s 20th feature. A deeply personal account of legendary San Francisco restaurateur and chef Cecilia Chiang, told in her own words and through the perspectives of chef/author Alice Waters and food writer Ruth Reichl. Chiang is known for introducing America to authentic Chinese food with the opening of her internationally renowned restaurant, The Mandarin, in 1961.

Hong Kong-born, San Francisco-based filmmaker Wayne Wang has a rich filmography that includes independent, critically acclaimed and popular mainstream films such as Chan is Missing (1982); the classic The Joy Luck Club (1993), adapted from the novel by Amy Tan; the multi-award winning Smoke (1995); and box office hits Maid in Manhattan (2002, starring Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes) and Last Holiday (2006, starring Queen Latifah). Soul of a Banquet is his 20th feature film credit as a director.
