Singing in Mohawk and English, the Akwesasne Women Singers share their original songs that honour Haudenosaunee women’s experiences, with wisdom and humour. They are joined by Odawa composer Barbara Croall, performing her own compositions on First Nations traditional cedar flute.

Akwesasne Women Singers
Through songs, the Akewsasne Women Singers honor Mother the Earth,
Grandmother the Moon, Grandparents from every generation, the
teachers in schools who teach the language, the Great Law of Peace for
our life’s foundation and more. The majority of their songs are written in the
Mohawk language with the help of fluent Mohawk-speaking community
members. They believe that if their language dies, so will the Nation of
people because without language there is no culture. Akewsasne Women Singers proudly
share songs and teach children in order to honor everything that
is natural to the Haudenosaunee people.
