V.C.L. Community Cultural Day 2018

V.C.L. Community Cultural Day is a community festival hosted by Vietnamese Cambodian Laotian Community Services Association. Participants are most Chinese seniors who became refugees due to the wars or persecution happened in that region in 1970s and eventually settled in Canada in 1970s and 1980s.
History of Boat People
Many of the refugees were Chinese. Not only because they were considered outsiders by Khmer Rouge and Communist Vietnam, but also because Chinese were mostly businessmen while communists hate capitalists and love to confiscate their assets.

写春联
Chinese New Year is coming this weekend. Chunlian is a traditional decoration that is frequently used during Chinese New Year. People put Chunlian in the doorways to create jubilant festive atmosphere since the phrases written on it means good luck and prosperity.

A Chinese calligraphy master was invited to the festival to write Chunlian for visiting guests to take home for Chinese New Year decoration.

This is actually a common practice among Chinese communities around the world because not everyone has beautiful handwriting not to mention beautiful calligraphy written with an ink brush.
