Ukrainian Zabava at Harbourfront Centre, Toronto

With more than a million Canadians claiming to be of Ukrainian heritage (2001 census), chances are that most Canadians know Ukraine to be more than accordions, perogies and Easter eggs. Discover even more Ukrainian culture and cuisine all Labour Day weekend at Harbourfront Centre.

Ukrainian Zabava continues the 11 year tradition of The Toronto Ukrainian Festival (formerly the Bloor West Village Ukrainian Festival) of sharing Ukrainian culture through music, dance, food and crafts with artists from across Canada and directly from Ukraine. All events are free and for all ages.

An uniquely Ukrainian experience is the Wedding Show – which presents a staged traditional wedding by performers from Ukraine’s Hurtopravtsi Ensemble. An accompanying exhibition Elements of a Ukrainian Wedding features historical photos, videos, wedding cloths and ornate headdresses from the Ukrainian Museum of Canada and the Huculak Chair of Ukrainian Culture and Ethnography, the Peter and Doris Kule Centre for Ukrainian and Canadian Folklore, at the University of Alberta.
