AirAsia X to fly to Hawaii, exclusive destination in Europe by December

The long haul arm of Malaysia’s AirAsia Bhd plans to launch its first U.S. flights in November, with the drop in fuel prices helping revive a push into intercontinental service that the airline curtailed three years ago.

AirAsia X plans to start four weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Honolulu on Nov. 1, according to a regulatory filing published Monday, with a refueling stop in Osaka.

GST applies only for domestic flights

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31, 2015:
The 6% Goods and Services Tax (GST) will apply only for domestic fares for all Malaysia Airline (MAS) flights from tomorrow, as international flights and linkages aren’t affected.

In a FAQ document set out at its website, MAS said domestic flights linked to international route bookings will also be exempted from GST.

As an example, if a passenger books flights from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur, then on to Bangkok, the entire journey is GST-free – including the domestic fares. The multi-stop flights from Bangkok to KK are also GST-free.
But if the booking is solely from KK to KL or anywhere within the domestic flight network operated by MAS, the fares will attract the 6% GST.

Air Canada crash landing in Halifax

A Transportation Safety Board investigator said Air Canada Flight 624 passengers were “pretty lucky” that the Sunday morning crash wasn’t more serious after the plane touched down more than 300 metres short of a Halifax runway and smashed through an antenna array before finally skidding to a stop.

Mike Cunningham, a regional air investigation coordinator with the TSB, said during an evening press briefing that the cockpit voice recorder and data recorder have been recovered and sent to Ottawa so preliminary analysis can begin as soon as possible.

Germanwings airliner crashes in French Alps

A Germanwings plane carrying 150 people has crashed in the French Alps on its way from Barcelona to Duesseldorf.

The Airbus A320 – flight 4U 9525 – went down between Digne and Barcelonnette. There are no survivors, officials say.

The “black box” flight recorder has been found, France’s interior minister says. The cause of the crash is not known and the plane sent no distress signal during an eight-minute descent.
