CEBU PACIFIC TO SERVE UNITED STATES BY YEAR END

Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific is inching closer to its dream of flying to the United States after the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines granted the budget airline certification for Extended Diversion Time Operations.

The EDTO certification was originally introduced by the International Civil Aviation Organization to govern carriers that operate twin-engined aircraft on routes exceeding sixty minutes of flying time from the nearest airport. Cebu Pacific has been granted diversion privileges of up to 120 minutes. This means that Cebu Pacific’s flight routes between airports must never lead an aircraft more than 120 minutes away from the nearest diversion airport.

Local officials rounding up beggars in the centre of Chai Nat province were stunned to come across a handicapped Chinese beggar with more money in his pocket than they each earn in an entire month.

As part of a campaign against begging, social development and human security staff and local police went to a market on Khong Tham Road in Muang Chai Nat municipality on Tuesday, and there found 39-year-old Chinese beggar Xu Baosong, who has deformed hands.

Mr Xu is from Henan province, China, and did not speak Thai or English, and officials struggled to explain to him that begging is illegal in Thailand.

In a subsequent search, they at first found coins totalling 480 baht in his possession, but were then stunned to discover a lot of Thai banknotes in the Chinese man’s shoulder bag, totalling 21,540 baht.

“This beggar was carrying more money than my whole monthly salary,” said one official.

Mr Xu stayed at a hotel in the centre of Chai Nat, close to where he sat and begged. Authorities found many more coins in his room there. After questioning and charging the man, they took to local immigration police for repatriation to China.

Chinese woman arrested for begging

Nakhon Nayok: A Chinese woman was arrested in Nakhon Nayok Monday and is facing a deportation for having illegally soliciting public donations.

Cui Zigui, 59, was arrested on the Nakhon Nakyok-Dong Lakhon Road near the old Nakhon Nayok Market, Nation TV reported.

Police found her carrying a piece of paper that has been properly sealed. The paper states: “Dear kind-hearted people, my husband has been hit by a car and his brain has been damaged. We have run out of money for his treatment. We have young children and we are poor. Please share your money to help us, thank you.”

The woman has been spotted acting as a deaf-mute and using hand sign to beg for money.

Police found her passport and learned that she arrived from Wuhan Tianhe on an AirAsia flight on March 9.
Police had her called someone she knew and the person who answered the call said he was in Nakhon Ratchasima. Police tell the person to meet her at the Mueang Nakhon Nayok police station.

The Nakhon Nayok Social Development and Human Security Office told police to seek the revocation of her tourist visa as she had violated the condition of country entry as a tourist and she has been earning money as a beggar.
The Nakhon Nayok police then handed her over to the immigration police to process her deportation.

Police said many Chinese people have been illegally soliciting donations by using the same trick with the woman –displaying a piece of paper in areas where there are a lot of people, especially at food shops.
