Europe lifts ban on PH’s AirAsia

The European Union has lifted the ban on Philippines’ AirAsia, allowing the local unit of Southeast Asia’s largest budget airline to fly to European countries.

“Yes, the EU lifted the ban two weeks ago,” said Alfredo Yao, a board member of AirAsia Inc., operator of Philippines’ AirAsia.

Yao confirmed the company planned to expand routes to include Europe. AirAsia Berhad of Malaysia and Filipino businessmen led by Yao own Philippines’ AirAsia.

The EU and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and European Union are set to formally announce the highlights of the updated EU air safety list soon.

Politicians makes pitches for Quebecers’ votes on province’s national holiday

Montreal’s downtown was filled Wednesday afternoon with Quebecers waving blue-and-white flags and walking in the city’s annual Fete Nationale parade.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair and Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe all attended the celebration.

Trudeau mingled briefly with the crowd and described the Fete Nationale as an event that “brings Quebecers together” to celebrate “our local culture and our magnificent French language.”

AirAsia passengers among 56 held in India for allegedly smuggling gold bars

NEW DELHI: Forty-five AirAsia passengers were among 56 people detained by Indian authorities in Andhra Pradesh for allegedly smuggling 62kg of gold bars worth 17 crore rupees (about RM10mil), the Times of India reports.

It is not immediately clear whether Malaysians were among those arrested.

The newspaper said that acting on a tip-off, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) of Chennai, in a special operation on Sunday night, travelled to the Visakhapatnam International Airport and carried out thorough checks on two flights from Kuala Lumpur and one from Singapore.

Two dozen hurt after Megabus, tractor-trailer crash en route from Montreal to Toronto

LANCASTER, ONT. — Four people including a teenaged boy were taken to hospital with serious injuries Tuesday after a crash between a tractor-trailer and a double-decker bus en route from Montreal to Toronto, police said.

The injured teen had to be airlifted from the scene while paramedics and firefighters tended to many of the injured on site, provincial police Sgt. Kristine Rae said in an interview.
