SEPANG: AirAsia staff and personnel said their final goodbyes to the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) after 8 years in service.
The airline had served an average of between 28,000 to 32,000 passengers daily from all over the world since its inception March 23, 2006.
The historic last flights out were Kuala Lumpur to Kolkata (Flight AK 63) at 10.30pm for AirAsia, Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah (Flight D7 170) at 2.35am BY AirAsia X and Kuala Lumpur to Kota Baru (Flight 6446) at 9.50pm for domestic flights.
AirAsia Chief Executive Officer Aireen Omar said the move has a bittersweet feeling to all the staff and personnel who has worked since 2006.
“The move should boost the staff to provide better services in future taking into account the bigger facilities that are provided at klia2,” she said before taking a group photo to mark the historic move to klia2.
The last passenger to check-in for the Kuala Lumpur to Kolkata flight, Utpal Chowdhury, 46 said he was very proud to be the last passenger to check in and it was an honour.
“LCCT is one of the best terminal around the world but there is room for improvement which should be able to be addressed by klia2,” said Utpal, who is frequent flyer, taking about 20 flights a year.
The LCCT was initially designed and built to accommodate the high growth of passenger movements for the Low Cost Airlines, especially the passengers of Malaysia’s first’no-frills’ airline, Air Asia.
