Last-minute hotel booking app, HotelQuickly, has acquired Japan’s domestic booking app, Tonight, paving its entry into the “Land of the Rising Sun”.
With this acquisition, HotelQuickly adds its 16th country and another 400 hotels to its roster.
HotelQuickly said the addition of Japan to the app’s offerings would open more spontaneous travel opportunities for HotelQuickly members within the region. It is also capitalising on Japan’s recent relaxation of visa requirements for many nationalities, making the country more accessible to travellers planning last-minute travel.
Moving into Japan was a logical next step and would open new possibilities for travellers within the region, the company added, “Member feedback drives much of what we do at HotelQuickly, and our members told us Japan was one of the top three countries they want to visit this year,” said Christian Mischler, co-founder & COO of HotelQuickly.
“Recently relaxed visa requirements, as well as more affordable flights between Tokyo and our current markets is making spontaneous travel to Japan easier than ever.”
HotelQuickly is making preparing for its entry into its 16th country with full translation of the app into Japanese.
“The integration of Tonight will take place over several weeks. We’ve already opened deals at hotels in selected Japanese destinations, and will soon make our regional, last-minute hotel offers available to our Japanese members,” said Mischler.
HotelQuickly, which offers mobile-only discounts on rooms within a seven-day booking window, said its app has been downloaded more than two million downloads since its launch in March 2013. The app has partnered with about 12,000 hotels and resorts to sell their room inventory to last-minute travellers.
The app is supported in nine languages, and is free to download on Google Play and iTunes App Store.
