Nearly 80 artists from across China have brought together by China’s Ministry of Culture for an unprecedented tour of the artistic and cultural traditions of the world’s most populous nation for two North American stops: The Smithsonian Folklife Festival, in Washington, D.C., and China Now at Harbourfront Centre. While local audiences will have an entire weekend to witness a range of performances and demos by these visitors, our opening night showcase event offers a veritable greatest-hits: A cast of characters culled from across the Middle Kingdom perform music, dance, martial arts and more, hinting at the variety of arts and culture both on display at China Now, and developed over 5,000 years of history.
