Lion Dance

They are lions although they are often mistaken as dragons by westerners. Maybe people should be forgiven for making such mistakes since lions are not native to China. But at least there are some lions in China’s zoos, while there is no real dragon in China.

The lion is traditionally regarded as a guardian creature and his ceremonial acrobatic dance will summon luck and fortune to all.

Performers teach two audience members how to perform the lion dance. The two lions then “battle” in lion costumes and the winner is determined by applause and receives a prize.
