NEW DELHI: Hybrid airline, Malindo Air, is set to start flying to India’s Kochi in the southern Kerala state soon.
Deccan Chronicle reported that the route would be Kuala Lumpur-Kochi.
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is among the airlines that have started operating the route recently.
Others are Silk Air, also a full service carrier, is operating daily to Singapore, while Tiger Airways, a low-cost airline, gives connectivity to Singapore four times a week.
“Besides these carriers, three more airlines are in talks with Cochin International Airport Ltc (CIAL) to start operations to Far-East destinations.
These are Malaysia-based low-cost carrier, Malindo Air, Indonesia-based Garuda Airlines and Thai Airways, the national flag carrier of Thailand,” said the report.
Malindo Air is also planning to fly to New Delhi and Mumbai.
“With passenger volume increasing, more carriers have realised the potential of the Kochi-Far-East routes. These airlines offer easy connectivity to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, California in the US, which have become useful to a lot of Keralites travelling to these destinations,” CIAL Airport director, ACK Nair, said.
MAS began its KL-Kochi operations on September 1. AirAsia has a daily flight to the destination.
